BRINGING  HOME YOUR NEW PUPPY

One of the first things you should do is find a good veterinarian in your area.  Make an
appointment to set up his vaccination schedule within 2 to 3 days after bring your puppy
home.

Once you bring your puppy home, he's going to need supervision for the first few days.  You
don't want to bring him home and leave him alone.  This will cause him to become scared
and lonely in his new and unknown environment.   Work out a schedule with other family
members or friends so he won't be alone.

Set up an area where he will eat and drink, and where he will sleep.  Check around your
home for potential dangers that he may get into.

Set up a sleep area with his crate, a blanket and toy.  One good idea is to let him sleep with a
piece of clothing, such as a tee shirt that has your scent on it.  In his first few days in his new
home he will probably cry at night.  You may want to set up his sleeping area in your
bedroom until he becomes more accustomed to you and his surroundings.

Puppy Proof Your Home

Puppies will be curious about their new surroundings and will get into trouble.  Look around
your house for potential dangers you need to keep out of his reach.  Some things you will
want to keep him away from are
  • electrical wires
  • medicines
  • soaps, shampoos and detergents
  • block small crawl spaces
  • outside items - fertilizers, gas, oil or other petroleum products, insecticides
